National Team before The National Team (1919)

In 1919, just weeks after the peace negotiations, Paris hosted the Inter-Allied Games which was an athletic tournament organized by US Military and the YMCA.

A very popular event at the games was the 8 teams football competition.

For the football competition, two groups of four were organized and the top spots of each group competed in the final.

Group A: France, Italy, Romania and Greece

Group B: USA, Czechoslovakia, Canada and Belgium

In the end, Czechoslovakia and France met in the final, Czechoslovakia winning 3-2.

Romanian Team.

The Romania team was drawn almost exclusively from Bucharest and without a single Hungarian ethnic being involved, unlike any other Romanian team in those decades. The Romanian Army was still at war with Hungary on Tisza front and the emotions must have been tense.

Romanian Team: Constantin Alvirescu, Teodor Davila, Theodor Florian, Constantin Georgescu, Vasile Ginita, Ernest Hillard, Dumitru Maiorescu, Savu Mares, Eugen Metianu, Dumitriu Niculescu, Constantin Radulescu, Horia Roman, Nicolae Sacareanu, Alexandru Sasulescu, Butu Traian.

How Romania did.

In the opening match of the competition against France, the hosting nation, Romania lost 0-4. Things only get worst, in the second match being massacred (strange choice of words given the circumstances) by the Italians with 1-7 and beaten by Greece in the last match with 2-3.
